On Tuesdays, Jose & Brandon go to the market to get fresh fruits & vegetables for the center to use for the lunches the following week. They have established relationships with some of the vendors at the markets by having conversations with them as well as praying with & for these vendors & their families while they are at the market with them. These vendors, in turn, donate fruits & vegetables to the ministry. Some vendors give the old stuff but some vendors give their "first fruits". The amazing thing is the amount of food that is donated!!! The Ministry is able to go through the donations & take out what they will need for the following week. Anything that is left over (and there is A LOT left over!) is given away to the families of the children who come to the Ministry. The families know Tuesdays are Market Days & they either send bags with their children or come with bags to fill, themselves. The week we were there, Jose wasn't able to go so Brandon took Dustin with him, instead. Michelle & I were blessed to be able to actually give out some of the food. We had carrots, onions, cucumbers, limes, peppers, plantains, bananas and some herbs that I wasn't familiar with. We had SO much this day (after the Ministry took out enough to feed over 100 kids 5 lunches during the week) that I was giving away about 10 limes & 5 peppers to each family! I have posted some photos below(notice the size of the carrots!!!!!!):
